Visnovsky & Bailey Incoming

When Radek Martinek was resigned by the Isles prior to the start of the 2013 season, it was an insurance move that gave the team low cost, but capeable depth on defense.  Prone to injury, I didn't expect Radek Martinek to play a majority of the teams games this season.  But I also didn't expect him to be placed on IR before he suited up at all for the New York Islanders.  Today, the Isles announced that Radek Martinek has been placed on IR with a groin/abdominal strain, retroactive to Feb. 3. No timetable for his return.

This can open a roster spot for Josh Bailey to return from injury this week.  This will allow Coach Capuano to fit Bailey into the best line combination and shuffle the rest of the lines.

Lubomir Visnovsky is scheduled to report to the Islanders on Wednesday.  Having a top pair defensemen join the team should help an already improved team defensive and PP unit.  As B.D. Gallof has surmised, I agree we will probably see Finley waived to make room for Lubo of defense.

These may be timely additions after the teams slump against New Jersey on Sunday.  Not that I am saying there is any need to panic, but trading up in talent is rarely a bad thing.

Isles Notes:

Per Arthur Staple, the NYI have shuffled their top two lines at practice today:

Moulson-Tavares-Boyes, Grabner-Nielsen-Okposo. Bailey extra F with top line.  Per Head Coach Jack Capuano, Bailey will skate with the team and be evaluated "midweek." It could mean a SAT return rather than THU.

Their third and fourth lines:

Ullstrom-Aucoin-McDonald (back from suspension), Martin-Reasoner-Cizikas, w/Boulton extra on 4th line.

Travis Hamonic sitting out practice today for Isles, but he'll play tomorrow.

Katie Strang on Lubo to Long Island.
