Your New York Islanders announced today that their Rookie
Camp Begins on Friday. Michael Dal Colle, Joshua Ho Sang, Anders Lee and all the attending prospects will skate at the NVMC from Sep. 12-17. On-Ice work outs will take place each day with an off day on
Sunday. Brent Thompson will most likely
oversee the squad to help the organization evaluate the assembled talent, especially to
see who might make the cut with the Isles and who could get an opportunity with
Bridgeport.
While on the topic of prospects, @IslesBlog mentions that NHL.com announced their top 60 prospects. Out of the 6 writers who contributed
Dal Colle mentioned 5x, Reinhart 5x, Pulock 3x, Pokka 1x. Official list
has Reinhart at 20th, and Dal Colle at 28th. Rest didn't make the cut.
Meanwhile, several veteran and rostered players got in some early team
style workouts at Isles Iceworks prior to the official start to training camp
on September 18th. Per Arthur Staple,
Bailey, Grabovski, Lee, Pokka, Strait, Skille & Cizikas were among the
players present for today's skate. Halak and Johnson were there as well. The team is eager to start the final
season at the coliseum. A healthy John
Tavares said he was optimistic for the upcoming season based on the additions
made to the roster over the off season while Kyle Okposo was quoted as saying
"We want to give [the fans] the proper sendoff and have the best season
possible," when asked about the team's last season at Coliseum.
Between the vastly improved goaltending situation with Jaro
Halak and Chad Johnson, with Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin
heading up a nice group of prospects and recent additions at forward to give the
Isles a much more competitive core up front.
Probable new roster players like TJ Brennan and Kevin Czucman will join
guys like Griffin Reinhart, Ville Pokka, Scott Mayfield & Ryan Pulock in their attempts to
stake a claim in a defensive line up that needs to make a statement this
season, especially if another veteran defensemen isn't added prior to the season
opener.
Isles Notes:
Per Arthur Staple, "Tavares and Okposo are on the NHL
national media tour, will join skate later in the week."
