Isles Notes for 5/17


Per New York Islanders, this day in 1983 - The Islanders win their fourth consecutive Stanley Cup by sweeping the Edmonton Oilers in four games.


Slovakia defeats Canada 4-3 in first IIHFWC quarterfinal game and holds John Tavares off the score sheet.  Former Islander, Miroslav Satan with the game winner.

Jesse Joensuu scored for Finland with less than 10 seconds left, giving Finns a 3-2 win over Team USA.


Chris Botta comments, “What a day for Isles prospect Jesse Joensuu. Breaks USA's heart, after Scott Gordon never wanted to play him for NYI.”


And B.D. Gallof, “Joensuu is still an Isles NHL prospect and part of the rebuild. Don't be quick to consider him failed just b/c his development took time.”
