Isles Notes for 5/4

USA Hockey reports a final: USA 7, France 2. 6 goal scorers for USA. Okposo nets 2. Pacioretty 1 G, 2 A. Up next is Canada 2012 MWC. On Saturday at noon.

Per the New York Islanders, Team Canada and John Tavares defeat Slovakia 3-2 in opening game of IIHFWC.

Frans Nielsen's Danish National Team lost their IIHFWC opener to the Czech Republic by the score of 2-0.

Yesterday Frans Nielsen & John Tavares were named Player of the Game in their respective exhibition games.

@dchesnokov reports, “Kirill Petrov will not join the Isles after all. He signed a contract extension in the KHL with AK Bars.”  It seems a precarious CBA situation and his Mother’s health concerns are keeping him in Russia, but the Islanders will still retain his rights.  Chesnokov adds, “I am trying to find out the length of Petrov's extension and whether it is an "insurance" like contract allowing him to attend Isles camp.”

Playoff Notes:

Kevin Paul Dupont reports that of the last 8 Cup winners, 6 of them with GMs who did not play in NHL.

Adam Proteau indicates that only 2 of the 8 starting goalies left in the NHL playoffs were drafted in the 1st or 2nd round. Remember that in June.

@tonystabile points out that the 3 teams that made in-season coaching changes are among the 8 teams left playing.

Per Chris Botta, In New York, the last Rangers vs Capitals game did a 3.99 rating, highest-ever rating in the market for an NHL game on NBC Sports Net/VS.
